A round speckled oatmeal moon jar with a small rim and a drip of glaze near its raw clay foot, on a plaster plinth

One of one

Speckled moon jar

Moon jar

A full, round jar thrown in two halves and joined at the belly, in a soft oatmeal glaze that pools and runs at the foot.

Size
28 cm tall, 30 cm across
Clay
Speckled buff stoneware
Glaze
Oatmeal with iron speckle
Firing
Reduction fired to 1,280°C
Made
September 26, 2026

Moon jars are thrown as two deep bowls and joined rim to rim while the clay is still soft, so every one carries a faint seam round its widest point and leans a little its own way.

This one came out of the September firing with a single run of glaze down to the foot, where the oatmeal thinned and the iron in the clay burned through as dark specks.
